Before he wrote the Tony Award-winning megahit musical RENT, Jonathan Larson was a "promising young writer" who just couldn't seem to break through, working at a diner by day and balancing his creative pursuits, friendships, and love life the rest of the time, on the cusp of turning 30 with little to show for it. tick, tick...BOOM! is the story he wrote based on that life, before he tragically passed away on the eve of the debut of his crowning triumph. Fans of RENT's music will recognize all the Larson hallmarks in this funny and poignant story of a man trying to be true to himself while staring down the decade where we start to turn "old" and wondering if it's all worth it. Songs like "30/90," "Real Life," and "Louder Than Words" are instantly memorable and relatable to anyone who has tried to answer the question, "What's my purpose?"
Parental guidance is suggested (adult language and themes).
In line with Acting Out for Good's charitable mission, proceeds from the box office will be donated to the Jonathan Larson Grants at the American Theatre Wing, to support emerging musical theatre composers and writers.
